New Parking Plan a step nearer

The new parking plan for Queensway Car Park has moved a step closure with the introduction of the machines which will issue the timed tickets for the car park. The new plan will see the bottom of the car park nearest Morrison's restricted to a maximum 3 hour parking time while the rest of the car park will remain without time restriction.

Councillor Robert Finnigan said "The introduction of a time restriction was supported by local traders, Morley Town Centre Partnership and local councillors. The aim is to bring in more shoppers by having a larger turnover of spaces at the bottom of the car park while retaining the top area for those who park for longer periods."

The car park will remain free as a legal agreement signed by Leeds City Council prevents any charges being introduced.

Councillor Finnigan said "These new arrangements will be trialled for a 6 month period to make sure it has the desired outcome. We will review the results of the plan at that time and make a decision about implementing the change permanently."

The relevant Traffic Order could be agreed in June and the new plan should start later in the summer.
