An Access Control Barrier like the one to be installed at Millside Walk, Morley

Millside Walk gets "A" frame

Following discussions with local residents, plans are underway for the installation of an access control gate to prevent Motorcycles travelling between Old Wide Lane and Millside Walk in Morley.

Local residents have complained for some time of anti-social behaviour in the area, which has resulted in increased Police patrols and detached youth work being carried out.

The "A" frame style gate will prevent Motorcyclists using the footpath as a "cut through" to the Persimmon Estate off Magpie Lane and should help cut down on Anti Social Behaviour.

Commenting on the introduction of the "A" frame, Councillor Judith Elliott said " I am pleased that officers have recommended the siting of the gate at this location. For some time Councillor Grayshon and myself have dealing with a number of problems in the area and the illegal use of Motorcycles has been one of them."

The "A" frame should be installed over the next few months when agencies such as BT and Transco have been consulted about the location of their underground network.  The frame will be bordered by railings which will prevent abuse of the gateway and following requests from local residents will be painted a dark colour to prevent graffiti.

Councillor Terry Grayshon, who is contributing to the cost of the scheme said " I am pleased that this scheme is to go ahead. We have been trying for some time to try and reduce ASB in the area and this looks like a sensible idea.  Local residents contacted me and asked if the "A" frame and adjoining railings could be a dark colour and I have asked for this to be done and financed the extra cost for this.  I am sure it will be a benefit to the local residents"
