Final Consultation on Playgrounds begins

Hesketh Lane Play Area soon to be revamped

Plans for the replacement of playgrounds at Hembrigg Park and Hesketh Lane will be circulated for final consultation this week before a contract is issued for the work to be undertaken. The work will commence after Morley Borough Independent Councillors found the £200,000 needed to update both play areas.

Councillor Judith Elliott said, “The plans for both the Hembrigg and Hesketh Lane are being circulated around local residents for their final comments. . I am delighted we have been able to identify the funds for both schemes

to go ahead and they will provide a brilliant and up to date play area for local children.”

The play area in Hembrigg Park will be moved to a more central location following concerns raised by residents in Elmfield Court and the old playground removed and replaced with a car park for visitors to Hembrigg Playing Fields. The Hesketh Lane site will see the old play equipment moved and new up to date play equipment fitted including a larger slide, better swings and a modern roundabout.

Cllr Terry Grayshon said “I am aware that local communities have been patient while waiting for the cash to be found for this refurbishment programme. We are now on the last leg of the consultation exercise as we want to get a contractor on both sites as quickly as we can.”

Residents are asked to respond to the consultation exercise by 16th September so that contracts can then be signed. They can pass on their comments by e-mail at campaigns@morleyindependent.com or by ringing 0113 2477538.
