A CCTV scheme has been proposed for Churwell Park following problems with vandalism in the park. The scheme, which would cover both the top and bottom of the park, including the new multi-games area and bowling club, will also focus on a new mosaic, which is to replace the recently vandalised one. Cllr Robert Finnigan said, “We have asked officers to price up this CCTV scheme. We have been told that the scheme is practical and we know need to see if we can raise the funds to implement the scheme.” CCTV schemes in Gildersome and at Lewisham Park have led to a substantial decrease in vandalism and evidence from the cameras has been used to prosecute offenders. Cllr Bob Gettings added, “It is important that the vandals do not win and make our parks no go areas. We are |

determined to return our parks back to their communities and rid Churwell Park of the small number of yobs who carry out anti-social behaviour. The introduction of other CCTV schemes have led to an increased use of parks by residents and we strongly believe that this scheme, if introduced, will have the same impact.” A full feasibility scheme will now being undertaken with a decision expected in the autumn. |
