Car Park Pilot Project to commence |

A pilot project is to commence at the Queensway Car Park, adjacent to Morrison’s in Morley. The project, which will look at limiting the time parkers can spend in the car park to 3 hours, follows comments made at the Morley Summit as well as concerns raised with Councillors by traders about the unavailability of car parking at the car park. Cllr Robert Finnigan said “Traders have told us that it is essential to look at ways of making the Morrison’s Car park more efficient and to have a higher turn over of car parking spaces. Presently many car drivers are parking all day especially at the bottom half of the car park. We are exploring whether limiting parking to a maximum of 3 hours might achieve a better availability of car parking spaces to people visiting the town.” |

The proposal received support from the Morley Town Centre Partnership, which also has traders on its committee. Cllr Finnigan said “We have given cast iron guarantee that Morley will remain a Town where parking will remain free. This is a pilot project that will look at offering a higher turnover of car parking spaces which will hopefully lead to more shoppers visiting the town. We will be reviewing the result of this project before any further action is taken on Morley’s other car parks.” The project should commence early in the New Year after new parking hardware is fitted and the appropriate traffic regulation orders are obtained. |
